Knit a Hat SIDEWAYS! (“Toph” by Woolly Wormhead)
Teacher: Aurora Price
Cost: $85
When: Thursdays, January 9 & 16, 6:00–8:00pm
Description: Wait, did you say sideways?? Why, yes we did! This gorgeous hat is cleverly designed to be worked flat, and sideways, entirely in garter stitch. You’ll start with a provisional cast-on, then work the color pattern using German short rows (no floats!), and finish by grafting the ends together. You’ll come away with some great new knitting skills, along with a beautiful hat!
Prerequisites: Basic knitting skills. The provisional cast-on, short rows, and grafting will all be taught in class.
Homework: None.
Min/max number of participants: 4/8
Materials to bring along:
- 1 skein each of two contrasting colors worsted weight yarn, purchased from Spun (we suggest )
- Straight or 24" circular in size US3 for up to 20" head or US4 for up to 22" head (gauge is used to adjust size). (Note: these needles are smaller than you would typically use with worsted weight yarn; this creates a dense, cozy fabric to keep your head warm even in the worst weather!)
- Size D or E (for provisional cast-on)
- scrap yarn, approx 3yds, worsted weight or smaller
- a digital or printed copy of “Toph” by Woolly Wormhead (purchase and download from Ravelry )
